Imams and preachers used Friday sermons to lambast the “barbarians” who massacred over 100 innocent school children at an army school in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Tuesday.
Maulana Mazhar Alam Qasmi, imam of a mosque in Mira Road, rejected the culture of violence and counseled resolution of disputes through dialogue. Many community leaders lauded the imams for condemning the killings and suggested immediate steps. “Indian ulema (religious leaders) must sink sectarian differences and issue a joint fatwa declaring the Taliban enemies of Islam, Muslims and humanity. Extremist groups like the Taliban must be wiped out,” said former MLA Yusuf Abrahni.
