Joint RTO-police squad to tackle bogus autos in suburbs

For the first time ever, the RTO will form a joint squad with the traffic police to tackle the menace posed by errant autorickshaw drivers in the suburbs.

According to sources in the auto unions, there is an estimated 40,000 autorickshaws which are plying without valid permits in eastern and western suburbs, and in Mira Road.

The squad will target these vehicles and conduct surprise checks to inspect documents in every auto.
Said a senior official, “We will begin the checks in Khar and Vile Parle areas and then carry out similar drives in Goregaon, Malad and Borivali before moving on to the eastern suburbs.” The drives will also be conducted in far flung suburbs such as Mira Road and Bhayandar in near future, the sources stated.
