Office-bearers and members of each and every housing society in the Mira Bhayandar region have to trudge all the way to Thane for the smallest issue related to their housing society.

With more than 5,500 housing societies under its belt the twin-city is spread across an area of 79.4 square kilometers having a population of more than 12 lakh. However, the region is still devoid of much needed registrar’s office for co-operative housing societies.

“It is really unfair that people have to travel to Thane which is not only time consuming but also drills a hole in common man’s pocket,” said Vijay Patil, chief of Mira Bhayandar Co-operative Housing Societies Federation Limited, which has intensified its demand for the facility in Mira Road.

MBMC has given its nod to give an office space in the Ram Nagar area for the purpose. However, despite surveys and other formalities by the authorities, there has been virtually no development on this front for a period of more than a year, sources said.

The society registrar’s office deals with housing societies’ issues such as registration of society, settlement of disputes relating to membership, recovery of society dues from defaulters etc.
