Mira-Bhayander cops declare war against drugs

Thane Rural police have declared a war against mephedrone and methamphetamine and have cracked down on the peddlers and victims. Recently, the locals of Mira Road held an awareness march along with the police.

Apart from intensifying vigilance and activating the informer network, the police department is also banking on an awareness drive to curb the new-generation drug menace, which has assumed an alarming proportion in the Mira-Bhayander region.

“Special squads have been formed for each police station in our division. These squads will keep an eye on meth pushers and local peddlers in the twin-city. However, after our crackdown and subsequent arrests, the notorious elements have apparently gone underground, but we are committed to permanently removing them from the region,” said, deputy SP, Suhas Bawche.

Declaring a war against this drugs, Rajesh Pradhan, superintendent of Thane Rural police, said, “The teenagers have become more addicted to these drugs. After we came across several complaints, we make sure that the peddlers are booked and residents themselves have taken the initiative. They have started creating awareness in the region about the evil effects of these drugs. We, too, will continue conducting such operations and hope to curb this menace at the earliest.”
